New ‘Vampire Academy’ Trailer: ‘Weird Doesn’t Even Begin to Cover It’

"Don't say 'Vampire Academy.' You know I hate the V-word," declares Lissa Dragomir (played by Lucy Fry), one of the lead vamps in the new trailer premiering exclusively here on Yahoo Movies.
We have to confess, we're feeling a big weight off our shoulders after watching that trailer. Because, in addition to all that sass and kicking ass is a vampire world we've struggled to explain with any sort of brevity. Thankfully, star Zoey Deutch does it for us.
"I should probably point out that my best friend, Lissa Dragomir, is a royal member of an ancient race. And, yeah, like most creatures with fangs, they live off blood," she says in a voice-over. "My name is Rose Hathaway, and I've been sworn to protect the royal bloodline with my life."
Of course, then we learn that perhaps Rose isn't the most reliable vampire in at St. Vladimir's Academy. In fact, she's described by her superiors (including her mentor and crush, Dimitri Belikov, played by Danila Kozlovsky) as "wild, dangerous, insubordinate."

All of those traits actually turn out to be a good thing in the case of "Vampire Academy." Sure, Rose has a sharp tongue to go with her sharp stake, but that's what makes Richelle Mead's books and, it seems, this movie – directed by Mark Waters, the man behind "Mean Girls" – so much fun.
