TIFF 2013: Kristen Wiig celebrates 40th birthday with cupcake and new role

Kristen Wiig was the girl most likely to get a present on the TIFF red carpet this week, considering she just turned 40. And it appears someone was happy to oblige.

The "Girl Most Likely" star, who celebrated her landmark birthday on August 22, attended the premiere of "Hateship Loveship" at the Princess of Wales Theatre in Toronto on Friday. The lucky birthday girl got her hands on a chocolate cupcake for the occasion.

One photographer caught Wiig, an eTalk mic in her face, blowing out the "40" candle on a chocolate cupcake as the actress made the rounds on TIFF red carpet for her film, which is based on a short story by Canadian author Alice Munro. In the film, Wiig plays a housekeeper and caregiver whose charge (Hailee Steinfeld) tries to push her into the arms of her father (Guy Pearce).

The "Saturday Night Live" alum attended the event in some busy Vena Cava shorts, having recently admitted in the October issue of Total Film that she isn't much of a trend setter. "I'm the kind of person that will just put on clothes and leave the house, and I have had friends telling me, 'You can't go out like that!' And I guess I can't," she said.

In 2011, Wiig told Lucky magazine, "My style is simple, with a touch of bohemian and rock and roll. I’m pretty much a jeans, T-shirt, maybe a leather jacket, slouchy sweater and boots kind of gal. I do like my big sweaters."

Aside from the cupcake, perhaps Wiig's biggest present of all was the announcement that she had landed a role in "Nasty Baby," the new film by Chilean director Sebastian Silva. The 40-year-old actress will play the friend of a gay couple who tries to help them have a baby.

Talk about a happy birthday!
