Superheroes Assemble (Hilariously) in ‘The LEGO Movie’ Trailer

Movie Talk

Finally, Wonder Woman is making an appearance on the big screen ... just not anywhere near in the way you might expect.

The mighty Amazonian known in her homeland as Princess Diana of Themyscira is just one of many superheroes featured in LEGO form in "The LEGO Movie." It's the latest bit of animated madcap mania from Phil Lord and Chris Miller, the guys who brought us "Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs." While a crankier-than-usual Batman (voiced by Will Arnett) steals more than one scene in the film's new trailer, it's Wonder Woman (voiced by, interestingly enough, Marvel player Cobie Smulders) who one-ups the Dark Knight in the trailer's final gag.

"The LEGO Movie" isn't strictly a superhero movie, though. The epic-sized story revolves around Emmett (voiced by Chris Pratt), a good-natured every-day working stiff who struggles with doing jumping jacks (a perhaps clever meta-reference to Pratt's much-publicized workout regimen for "Guardians of the Galaxy") and doesn't mind paying 37 dollars for a cup of coffee. His life undergoes a "Matrix"-sized change when he meets Wyldstyle (voiced by Elizabeth Banks), who informs him that he's what a prophecy refers to as "the most important person in the universe."

From there, Emmett is introduced to the society of 'MasterBuilders,' whom he's supposed to lead against the villainous President Business (voiced by Will Ferrell), who plans on gluing the universe together. It's a hero's journey that puts him in contact with a variety of strange LEGO characters, including an unimpressed President Abraham Lincoln (and his rocket-chair) and an authority figure who's able to switch between 'Good Cop' and 'Bad Cop' personas (the latter of which is voiced by none other than "Taken" star Liam Neeson).

"The LEGO Movie" looks to be a total blast, even if it might be just a series of in-jokes and references to other Warner Bros. creations and winks to some previous works of the many cast members. It's especially interesting to see Pratt playing a normal joe who's introduced to a supernatural world in which he becomes a leader of sorts — he'll be playing a similar character on a similar journey next summer as Peter Quill, the astronaut who's destined to become the superheroic Star-Lord, in Marvel's "Guardians of the Galaxy."

Exclusive: Meet Uni-Kitty (far right), voiced by Alison Brie! (Photo: Lego)

You can get another look at "The LEGO Movie" with our exclusive pic of the 'Cloud Cuckoo Palace,' a building set that's featured in the film. The set features Emmett, Wyldstyle, and a villain named Executron. But the real highlight here is a never-before-seen character named Uni-Kitty, who's voiced by none other than "Community" and "Mad Men" star Alison Brie. How Uni-Kitty fits into the plot remains to be seen, but if the building set is any indication, her role is definitely a colorful one.

The 'Cloud Cuckoo Palace' will actually be available to purchase as a LEGO set in January, prior to "The LEGO Movie" hitting theaters on Feb. 7, 2014.
