Finally, Sandra Bullock is getting the chance to show the dark side that those who suffered through “Hope Floats” always knew she possessed. The perennially sunny star will voice Scarlet Overkill, the resident super-villain of “Minions,” the upcoming spin-off of 2010’s “Despicable Me.”

As Deadline reports, Bullock’s character will pair high fashion with sky-high ambitions to become the world’s first lady super-villain. Set in the 1960s, the animated comedy will feature its title characters vying for the opportunity to be Bullock’s henchmen, a job previously held by Jesse James. The 3D CG film, which will be directed by Pierre Coffin and Kyle Balda, is a production of Universal and Illumination Entertainment. It’s scheduled to be released on December 19, 2014; in the meantime, “Despicable Me 2,” starring Steve Carell, Kristen Wiig, and Al Pacino, will hit screens on July 3 of this year and attempt to surpass the $540 million the original made worldwide.

As for Bullock, she’ll next be seen onscreen alongside Melissa McCarthy in “Heat,” a cop buddy comedy set for release on June 28, and then in Alfonso Cuaron’s 3D space flick “Gravity,” which opens October 4.
