SAG Award Nominations Favor ’12 Years a Slave’ and ‘Breaking Bad’
"12 Years a Slave" and "Gravity"
The acting community has spoken.
The nominations for the 20th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards were announced Wednesday morning, giving the nominees in five film and eight television categories added award season momentum ahead of the Golden Globe and Oscar nominations.
Awards buzz continues to build for perceived frontrunner "12 Years a Slave" which led the pack with four nominations including Outstanding Performance by a Cast, the event's biggest film award. Rounding out the nominees in that category are "August: Osage County," "Dallas Buyers Club" and "Lee Daniels' The Butler," which received three nominations each, followed by "American Hustle" for which Jennifer Lawrence received a nomination for Outstanding Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role.
Pleasant surprises on the film side include James Gandolfini's posthumous nomination for "Enough Said" in the category of Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role and the timely nomination of "Fast and Furious 6" in the stunt ensemble category.
In television, frequently-recognized favorites "Boardwalk Empire," "Breaking Bad," "Homeland," "Modern Family," and "The Big Bang Theory" received three nominations each, but have company from newer or, rather, reincarnated kid on the block "Arrested Development," which received two nominations.
The SAG Awards, which are voted on by actors themselves, will be handed out live on Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014, on TNT and TBS at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT.
