Relax, Internet: CNN Did Not Spoil Leonardo DiCaprio’s Upcoming Oscar Win

Yahoo Movies

If this already engraved nameplate is any indication, it looks like this year's Oscar winner for Best Actor could be Leonardo DiCaprio for "The Wolf of Wall Street."

Except that everyone should really hold their horses before throwing any ultra-decadent, three-hour Oscar parties in celebration.

Twitter is currently abuzz with the release of a CNN screencap that reveals the nameplate, perhaps effectively revealing a great big Oscar spoiler a full 20 days before the actual ceremony.

The engraved nameplate reads:

ACADEMY AWARD
TO
LEONARDO DiCAPRIO
BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN
ACTOR IN A LEADING ROLE
"THE WOLF OF WALL STREET"
2013

True, this could be seen as a bit of legitimate pre-production on the Academy's part ... though it's very likely a case of much ado about nothing.

For one thing, final voting hasn't even started yet. Final voting commences on Feb. 14 and closes on Feb. 25. So while Leo might indeed be a frontrunner, it doesn't mean he's going to get the final votes.

For another thing, and more pertinent here, as of 2010, the Academy creates engraved nameplates for every Oscar nominee, with the winner being given their nameplate at the Governor's Ball on Oscar night ... and the unused ones being recycled.

"In preparation for the night, the Academy will create 197 nameplates, one for each 2009 nominee in every category," reads an Oscar press release from Feb. 9, 2010. "The engraving will include the nominee’s name, category, film title and year. After the winners have been announced, the unused nameplates will be recycled."

So ... will Leo's nameplate be 'used' or 'recycled'? We won't know until the Oscars reveal all on March 2.
