Aaron Paul Nearly Misses the Bus in New 'Need for Speed' Clip

Yahoo Movies

Take one Emmy-winning actor, one Grammy-award winning rapper, one stuntman-turned-director, and several thousand pounds of Detroit steel. Then launch them all down the road at 125 mph. What you get is the big-screen adaptation of "Need for Speed."

The movie — based the long-running series of driving video games — stars Aaron Paul from TV's "Breaking Bad" and Scott Mescudi, better known as Kid Cudi. It's directed by Scott Waugh ("Act of Valor"), who was himself a stuntman and insisted that his actors do their own share of stunt driving (and flying) in the film.

In the exclusive clip above, you see Paul behind the wheel of a specially modified 2013 Shelby GT500 Mustang. It's got a wider body and 20" wheels to handle the precision stunt work, and a suped-up V8 engine that topped out at 190 mph. Seven versions of the car were built for the film, including one specifically built to be dangled from a helicopter.

And speaking of helicopters, Mescudi not only got to ride shotgun in several different choppers, he also learned to pilot different aircraft himself. But to show his actors they weren't alone in risking their necks, director Waugh strapped himself to the outside of a helicopter with a camera so he could film Mescudi in mid-air. Waugh said, "I like to challenge myself to make sure everything is done practically because I think audiences will know if it’s not."

Also starring Imogen Poots ("Fright Night"), Dominic Cooper ("Captain America") and Michael Keaton, "Need for Speed" opens nationwide on Mar. 14.
