Justin Timberlake Sells His Soul to Batman in ‘Runner Runner’
Before he'll don the cape and cowl as the Caped Crusader, Ben Affleck will first be corrupting innocent (-ish) young souls in this fall's high-stakes thriller about online poker (hey, just go with it), "Runner Runner."
Ben oozes Gordon Gekko-like charm in our exclusive clip from the new film, as online gaming guru Ivan Block (Affleck) meets with his soon-to-be protege, Richie Furst (Justin Timberlake) on a luxury yacht known as 'the House,' so named because, according to its owner, "the House always wins." Ivan Block (really, how can he not be a shady character with a name like that?) puts a lot of money into Richie's bank account, appealing to the young gambler's low resistance to risk (and high affinity for greed) as he secures his Machiavellian deal.
It's fun to watch Affleck workin' it as the amoral seducer, and even more so when you consider that Block could very well be a gone-bad version of billionaire playboy Bruce Wayne, whom Affleck will be playing in Zack Snyder's upcoming Superman/Batman team-up. And, come to think of it, wouldn't Timberlake make an excellent Boy Wonder to Affleck's Dark Knight?
Actually, we shouldn't even joke about things like that ... Warner Bros. seems mighty susceptible to such outlandish (and perhaps ill-advised) ideas lately.
"Runner Runner" hits theaters on October 4.
