As "The Dark Knight Rises" prepares to start shooting in May, it's impressive just how little we still know about what's arguably the most anticipated movie on the planet. Warner Bros. and director Christopher Nolan have done a great job in how closely they've guarded information on their project, from the plot to who's going to be in it. So even now when they let slip that Joseph Gordon-Levitt has indeed been cast, we still have no idea what role he's playing.

Variety broke the news late Friday, confirming rumors that had been going around since early February that Gordon-Levitt would be reuniting with Nolan, his director for "Inception." As the story indicates, it's completely unclear if he'll play a bad guy, and if he is which one he will be, although The Riddler and Deadshot seem to be the most popular candidates among those who like to make guesses about such things.

This process of slowly leaking information has been going on with "The Dark Knight Rises" for a while. Take Anne Hathaway, who was cast back in January in the role of Selina Kyle, although the studio played coy about whether or not she would also be Kyle's alter ego, Catwoman. (It appears that this is, in fact, the case, but it's still not something Nolan is trumpeting.) Of course, this secrecy could also be because, according to Variety, Nolan is still tweaking the script as they get close to production.

If Gordon-Levitt is indeed going to be a villain, that would mean he would be joining Tom Hardy (who's playing Bane) as Batman's nemeses in "The Dark Knight Rises." Gordon-Levitt and Hardy worked together first on "Inception," further cementing Nolan's reputation as someone who likes to work with the same actors and crew from film to film.

But that doesn't mean he's not open to new faces. The more minor bit of casting that came out of this Variety story is that Juno Temple is "being eyed for a supporting role as a street-smart Gotham girl." Temple has had small roles in films like "Greenberg" and "The Other Boleyn Girl," so this would definitely be a huge step up for her career-wise. Of course, Warner Bros. isn't confirming that news: Knowing how things work on this film, we assume we won't hear anything more about Temple's involvement until Nolan is good and ready to announce it.
