How Jennifer Lawrence’s Easier ‘X-Men’ Costume Might Lead to Mystique Spinoff
So, are we getting a Mystique spin-off from the "X-Men" movies or what?
When news broke about the possibility of multiple "X-Men" movie spin-offs — all pegged to the upcoming release and imminent success of "X-Men: Days of Future Past" — the Internet went wild with theories and analysis about which characters should and would get the stand-alone movie treatment. Not surprisingly, a Jennifer Lawrence-led Mystique spin-off received the most headline attention after "Days of Future Past" writer/producer Simon Kinberg stated his interest in exploring Mystique's solo story with Lawrence continuing to play the character.
Just how plausible is that idea? It is far too early to tell. Never mind that there's another mutant movie on the schedule: "X-Men: Apocalypse," which bows in 2016, and the success of "Days of Future Past" is yet to be determined, but mainly because Lawrence's schedule is booked well in advance. According to Kinberg however, one important element weighs in their favor: the number of hours the "Days of Future Past" makeup department has been able to shave off Lawrence's makeup application time.
"I have no idea if there will be a Mystique spin-off," Kinberg told Yahoo Movies after the film's WonderCon presentation. "We got Jen's makeup [application] down from I think seven or eight hours on 'X-Men: First Class' to about three or four on this film, which is pretty awful but at least it's not torture. On the last film, I think she'd have to get there sometimes at midnight the night before we shot and sit in that makeup trailer and I guess just sleep until we started. This was more bearable and we were more conscious of when she was blue not having her sit around."
Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique in 'X-Men: Days of Future Past'
Lawrence reportedly nicknamed her lengthy makeup process on the first film "Mystink," which would indicate that she might not be overly excited to jump aboard yet another franchise if it meant spending actual days in a makeup chair. However, if her "Days of Future Past" makeup experience was better than the alleged "Mystink" one, which Lawrence said involves a body suit vs. body paint, there might be hope to see Lawrence back in blue for a solo round.
