If you've noticed an uptick in commercials and pop-up ads for flowers, chocolate and jewelry lately you're likely well aware that it's that other time of the year to celebrate very important persons in our lives: moms.
That's right, Mothers Day is upon us and need we be reminded of that fact by another "Order your mom flowers now!" ad, Disney/Pixar has released a cute and clever promotion as a reminder to celebrate the women who brought us into the world as well as a reminder not to miss their upcoming release "Monsters University."
Now what exactly does "Monsters University" have to do with moms? Well even though the movie focuses on the first meeting of "Monsters Inc." BFFs Mike Wazowski and James P. "Sulley" Sullivan, we've seen from the trailers that there are a couple unexpected mom moments when they guys join an unconventional fraternity Oozma Kappa. Apparently, Oozma Kappa headquarters are at the home of one of their members and his parents, the Squibbles.
The 30-second spot features glimpses of happy-go-lucky mom Mrs. Squibbles giving her son Scott "Squishy" Squibbles unwanted life advice and interrupting the fraternity's official induction ceremony and embarrassing him in front of his peers when she starts dancing while doing laundry. She also provides the gang with a mode of transportation and unconditional support, as mothers do. The message here is one giant heart or hug going out to all the moms of the world because, as the "Monsters" gang and Disney are happy to point out, they are our biggest fans.
Look for more antics from Mrs. Squibbles and Oozma Kappa when "Monsters University" hits theaters June 21.
