One thing's for sure: "Go-tham!" is a lot easier to chant than "Metro-po-lis!"

The first bit of behind-the-scenes footage on filming of the upcoming Batman/Superman team-up doesn't feature the two superheroes engaged in some sort of uneasy alliance or brutal conflict. Rather, their rivalry is somewhat represented on the college football field as Gotham City University took on Metropolis State University.

Director Zack Snyder served as head coach on Saturday as he kicked off filming of the highly anticipated comic book movie during halftime of a football game between East Los Angeles College and Victor Valley College at Weingart Stadium. The players of those teams took a break while the actor-athletes of GCU (gold and black) and MSU (white and red) took to the field, performing two plays with Gotham on defense.

"There's gonna be two plays," announces a crew member to the crowd of extras/football fans and later refers to the project as "Batman vs. Superman." "The first play, you guys are all really happy about … the second play, is gonna be down at that end … and you're gonna hate it, you're gonna hate that play."

She was speaking to the Gotham fans, apparently, as the crowd delighted in chants of "Goth-am! Goth-am!" and "GCU! GCU!" As called by Batman-News, the first play was a tackle for a Metropolis loss while the second play perhaps foreshadowed the at-odds relationship of Batman and Superman as it ended with players getting into a bit of a skirmish.

Things didn't go very well when a football game was last featured in a Batman movie, as the Gotham Rogues fell victim to the latest terrorist act of the villainous Bane in "The Dark Knight Rises" (2012). Football has been a little more benign in the world of Superman, though, as a teenage Clark Kent was portrayed as a water boy with a secret super-kick in the original "Superman" (1978).

Saturday's game was something of a pre-show as filming on "Batman vs. Superman" (which is apparently what we should call it until instructed otherwise) will officially commence in February with a look toward a release date of July 17, 2015.
