British actor Benedict Cumberbatch has added yet another buzzworthy project to his increasingly impressive resume. The "Star Trek: Into Darkness" villain has reportedly signed on to star in Guillermo del Toro's post-"Pacific Rim" directorial effort "Crimson Peak."

Variety broke the news that Cumberbatch will join Emma Stone and "Sons of Anarchy" and "Pacific Rim" star Charlie Hunnam for the haunted house thriller, which according to The Hollywood Reporter is a throwback to old school gothic horror films. The story, which was written by Del Toro and Matthew Robbins, will reportedly revolve around a woman who discovers that the man she married is not at all who he appears to be.

No additional plot details have been released, including the roles that Cumberbatch, Stone and Hunnam are playing although one could assume that the woman in question will be played by Stone and her duplicitous husband will be played by Hunnam. Perhaps Cumberbatch plays a mysterious or benevolent stranger? Only time will tell until more character details emerge, though all the involved parties are experienced secret-keepers when it comes to safeguarding their upcoming projects. "Peak" is expected to go into production in February 2014.

In the meantime the "War Horse" and "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy" actor has a slew of other high profile projects coming to big screens soon; Cumberbatch will soon be very busy with promotion for his villainous role in J.J. Abrams' "Star Trek" sequel, the star-studded drama "12 Years a Slave," the A-list ensemble assembled for the big screen adaptation of the Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winning play "August: Osage County," Bill Condon's WikiLeaks biopic "The Fifth Estate" and his voice over/motion capture work in "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug." On top of all his moviemaking, Cumberbatch is in the midst of filming a new season of BBC's critically-acclaimed and fan-loved series "Sherlock."

UPDATE: 'Zero Dark 30' star Jessica Chastain has also signed on to 'Crimson Peak.'
