Count director Adam Shankman as the latest auteur to jump on the Kickstarter bandwagon.

The "Rock of Ages" and "Hairspray" director (who also is a judge of FOX's "So You Think You Can Dance"), along with his fiancé Frank Meli, have launched a Kickstarter campaign for a project titled "Dragula," which they describe as, "a short film about a high school senior who overcomes his emotional dysfunction and self-esteem issues when he unwittingly becomes involved with a drag queen who has a mysterious past." Meli will direct and Shankman will serve as executive producer.

"Dragula" also uses Bram Stroker's "Dracula" - part of a high school senior assignment - as a spring board to help main character Charles "find his voice." The film will have an estimated run-time of 20 minutes.

"Short films are a uniquely important experience, I think, in the life of a filmmaker," Shankman tells Yahoo! Movies exclusively.

"I am excited to be part of Kickstarter," Meli also shares. "It's exciting yet terrifying, but this site allows artists to create, which makes it all worth it in the end."
