‘Argo’ gets major last-minute endorsement … from the State Department!

Ben Affleck's got fans in high places.

The U.S. Department of State, not usually know to have a rooting interest in the Oscars, is pulling hard for "Argo."

On Saturday, John Kerry, in one of his first duties as new Secretary of State, logged on to the State Department's official Twitter account to announce:

Good luck @benaffleck and #Argo at the Oscars. Nice seeing @statedept & our Foreign Service on the big screen.-JK

— Department of State (@StateDept) February 23, 2013

It probably doesn't hurt that Affleck hails from Massachusetts, where Kerry served as a U.S. Senator for nearly three decades. As if this wasn't a strong enough endorsement of Team Affleck, the State Department also tweeted a photo of the movie's crew on the set captioned:

Did you know @benaffleck filmed scenes from #Oscar-nominated #Argo in the @statedept? See the crew in our lobby: flic.kr/p/dX9vQ4 — Department of State (@StateDept) February 23, 2013

There's no word if the Pentagon is pulling for "Zero Dark Thirty" or the State of Illinois is behind "Lincoln," but we're sure Kerry will have something diplomatic to say if "Argo" doesn't walk home with Best Picture.
