Another Actor is Cast Along Side George Clooney for ‘Tomorrowland’
12-year-old Raffey Cassidy will be appearing in "Tomorrowland," a sci-fi drama from director Bird (the animator turned writer, director, and producer who made "The Incredibles," "Ratatouille" and "Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol") and screenwriters Damon Lindelhof (one of the creators of "Lost") and Jeff Jensen (a senior editor at Entertainment Weekly). Cassidy is one of only three actors confirmed for the project so far; since the others are George Clooney and Hugh Laurie, the youngster is in pretty good company.
Cassidy's casting in "Tomorrowland" is also seen as confirmation of some speculation that has been circulating about the film. So far, Disney, Brad Bird, and the film's creative team have keeping the movie's plot details tightly under wraps, and given the strong fan following behind Bird and Lindelhof's work, the blogosphere has been working overtime keeping up with rumors about what might take place in "Tomorrowland."
The most credible information suggests that Clooney will play an inventor living in Tomorrowland, a city that exists in an alternate dimension. Clooney has invented a robot that looks like a young girl but has the ability to fend off any attackers. When the villain of the piece (played by Laurie) exiles the inventor from Tomorrowland, he joins forces with the robot and a teenage girl after they find the fate of the Earth hangs in the balance.
With young Cassidy confirmed to be joining "Tomorrowland," and the Hollywood Reporter announcing her character will be a robot, it looks like at least part of this synopsis is on the money.
As for Cassidy, the young British actress already has a resume many actors twice her age would envy. Cassidy was Young Snow White in "Snow White and the Huntsman," young Angelique (the character played by Eva Green) in "Dark Shadows," and was a regular on the British television series "Mr. Selfridge" with Jeremy Piven. And she's already landed a lead role in an upcoming movie co-starring Emily Watson and Joan Collins – Cassidy plays the title role in "Molly Moon: The Incredible Hypnotist," based on the children's books by Georgia Byng. Cassidy even has a fan website already.
So we know "Tomorrowland" will indeed have a young female robot, and that robot will be played by Raffey Cassidy. Not much, but that's a lot more than we knew yesterday about one of December 2014's most anticipated movies.
