The Angriest X-Men: Hugh Jackman’s Most Intense Wolverine Faces

Hugh Jackman seems like he's an absolutely charming guy in real life. He sings, he dances, he buys lottery tickets for all of his crew members — but when he gets in front of the camera in the character of resident X-Men angry man Wolverine, he turns on the intensity from zero to full on berserker rage.
In honor of Jackman's fifth time suiting up (sixth, if you include his brief cameo in "First Class") as Wolverine in this weekend's "The Wolverine," we've rounded up his most intense expressions, starting with:

It seems impossible to imagine anyone else as Wolverine now, but Jackman wasn't the first choice to play the mutton chopped-mutant (that honor belongs to Scottish actor Dougray Scott). But as soon as viewers saw Jackman's Wolverine, it was obvious that no one else would ever fit the role quite as well.

In the crown jewel of the original "X-Men" trilogy, Wolverine loses the leading lady of his life (Famke Janssen's Jean Grey), but he's not so hung up about it that he stops pulling some scarily intense expressions.

While "The Last Stand" suffered from some serious misdirection, Jackman's Wolverine remained one of the best parts of the film... something that appears to be a running impression from here on out.

Case in point. The concept for a standalone Wolverine movie was, in theory, strong — who didn't want to see how Wolverine got his amazing adamantium claws? — but the film was critically maligned.

In his fifth full-time turn as Wolverine, Jackman's whipped out some of his most intense faces yet. While the film's been getting mixed reviews, everybody agrees that Jackman's Wolverine is still utterly watchable.

Wolverine only appeared briefly in the first installment of the reboot of the "X-Men" franchise, but it was enough to maintain his reputation as the Most Badass Mutant.
Jackman's playing Wolverine yet again in 2014's "X-Men: Days of Future Past." Here's to hoping he never tires of making frighteningly intense faces.
