The 3D animated tentpole passed up Toy Story 3 over the weekend, thanks to a strong run in Japan -- its final market -- and more than four months after it was released in theaters in the U.S.

Internationally, Frozen is the biggest Disney or Pixar animated film of all time in 27 territories, including Russia, China and Brazil.
