The Mountain Lodge From The Bodyguard Could Be Yours For A Cool £5 Million

Looking to get away from your stressful rock-star life? The lakeside lodge where Kevin Costner took Whitney Houston in The Bodyguard could be yours! The house featured in the 1992 blockbuster, located near California’s Lake Tahoe, is now on the market for almost $8 million. As the price tag indicates, it’s not exactly the humble log cabin the movie made it out to be: The five-bedroom estate boasts vaulted ceilings, inlaid wood details, an enormous granite fireplace, and views of scenic Fallen Leaf Lake from every room. It is, however, as secluded as the retreat in the movie, with nearly 3 acres of land and its own 76-foot pier.

The Bodyguard is best remembered for its soundtrack, which featured the Whitney Houston single “I Will Always Love You”, and which still holds the record for the best-selling movie soundtrack of all time. In the film, Costner plays a security guard hired to protect an Oscar-nominated pop star (Houston) from a dangerous stalker. Halfway through the movie, Costner’s character takes the singer and her family to his father’s house in the woods, where he hopes they’ll be able to escape the threat of danger. The plan backfires when the stalker follows them, leading to a notorious scene in which Costner pulls a child from an exploding speedboat.

Without the bomb threats, however, that house by the lake looks pretty idyllic. And its Hollywood pedigree is strong: Not only did Houston and Costner cozy up there in The Bodyguard, but Nicolas Cage and Meg Ryan shared a passionate moment under its roof in 1998’s City of Angels.
