Even superheroes don't always hit their mark.
"Thor: The Dark World" is filled with amazing stunts and various acts of derring-do, but don't think all those superheroics are always achieved on the first try. After all, the Gods of Thunder (Thor) and Mischief (Loki) are only human (Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston), and with that humanity comes the occasional flawed performance.
Some of the most memorable mishaps from the set of the "Thor" sequel are captured in the gag reel that will be included on the film's Blu-ray release, set to hit shelves in February. Here are the highlights of hilarity:
1. Thor's Half a Hammer
Thor's weapon of choice becomes compromised when the top falls off during a fight scene, leaving Chris Hemsworth with nothing but the handle. Not to be undone, Hemsworth improvises a few moves with it, twirling it around like it's a police baton or nunchucks. Tremble, enemies!
(This prop malfunction probably happens a lot when making a "Thor" movie.)
2. Thor's Mighty Fall
It's the behind-the-scenes imagery that's just kind of humorous here. Sure, Hemsworth doesn't take the most impressive fall after he's smacked in the face by a Dark Elf, but it's the presence of the blue screen and some crew members holding on to safety mattresses that makes it all a very strange sight.
3. Wire Work is Fun With Chris and Natalie!
Thor and Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) fly into a scene via some fancy wire work, though it's Natalie (or her stunt double — it's hard to tell) who lands more gracefully than her superhero co-star, who takes a tumble when he hits the ground. Hey, if he can take a punch in the face from the Hulk, he can handle a crash landing.
4. Wire Work is Even More Fun With Tom!
As amusing as Hemsworth's mishap with the wires may be, it's pretty benign compared to the impromptu flips performed by Tom Hiddleston when he's pulled up at just a few degrees off the mark. Fun trick, Loki!
"Thor: The Dark World" will be available for digital download on Feb. 4 and on Blu-ray/DVD on Feb. 25.
