Black Widow Subdues the Hulk in New 'Avengers' Clip

Here’s an intriguing new chapter in the possible romance between Bruce Banner and Black Widow. In this above clip from Avengers: Age of Ultron (in theaters May 1), super-spy Natasha Romanoff (a.k.a. Black Widow, played by Scarlett Johansson) soothes the savage Hulk, the mean green alter ego of scientist Banner (Mark Ruffalo). The Hulk is rampaging through the woods when Natasha approaches him. With just a few words and a gentle touch, she manages to return Banner to his human form — something that Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) fails to achieve in the epic Iron Man–versus–Hulk battle clip that premiered on last night’s MTV Movie Awards. Even with his state-of-the-art Hulkbuster suit, Stark’s aggressive tactics are no match for Black Widow's bravery and compassion. Does that mean love conquers even the Hulk?

Meanwhile, Tony Stark desperately needs an ego check, which is exactly what the other Avengers try to give him in the second new clip (below). Stark has inadvertently unleashed a monster in Ultron (James Spader), a weaponized robot that he created to protect the world and which is now trying to destroy it.  “This could have been avoided if you hadn’t played with something you don’t understand,” Thor (Chris Hemsworth) tells him. Stark counters that these are desperate times, and his secret weapon was a noble cause. “Anybody remember when I carried a nuke through a wormhole? Saved New York?” he asks, referencing the climax of 2012’s The Avengers. How, he asks, can a ragtag group of heroes protect the whole world against the evil forces of the universe? And Captain America (Chris Evans) gives him the only acceptable answer: “Together.”
