Beverly Hills Bar Association Honors Entertainment Lawyer Ivy Kagan Bierman

At its annual awards dinner on Wednesday at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel, the Entertainment Law Section of the Beverly Hills Bar Association (BHBA) honored its 2015 Entertainment Lawyer of the Year, entertainment partner Ivy Kagan Bierman of Loeb & Loeb LLP.

Actress and comedian Kate Flannery (“The Office,” “Saturday Night Live”) served as master of ceremonies, and Grammy Award-winning singer Patti Austin — accompanied by celebrated jazz pianist Shelly Berg — gave a musical tribute to the lawyer.

Kagan Bierman’s clients including Melissa Rivers, Paul Abdul and Charles Randolph-Wright, along with colleagues such as Loeb & Loeb’s Craig Emanuel and Erik Hyman, offered their congratulations via a video tribute. In the audience, support came by way of members of Women in Film and the Anti-Defamation League, two organizations with which Kagan Bierman is involved on a philanthropic level, as well as representatives from Netflix, Pilgrim Studios, E!, NBCUniversal, and Weigel Broadcasting.

“This was like the Bat Mitzvah I never had,” said Kagan Bierman to the crowd. “There’s a box in the back for the checks!”

She dedicated her award to two special women: “Joan Rivers (a client), she was 78 years old when I met her and was an amazing force, and my mother, Lorraine Berg. In high school (in Texas), I was upset because I was voted ‘most likely to succeed,’ (not most popular or prettiest) and my mom said, ‘Looks fade and fashion changes, you got the right award.’”

Proceeds from the event sponsored by Variety supported the BHBA’s education and community outreach programs.
