Ben Affleck Tweets Out Mysterious Footage of Longtime Batman Nemesis

Ben Affleck tweeted out something pretty interesting and unexpected. The Justice League star recorded footage off a monitor showing a famous DC villain, one who hasn’t made it to the silver screen yet: Deathstroke. There are questions abound due to the fact that Affleck didn’t include any other information with the tweet. Is this footage from Justice League? Is this a screen test for Affleck’s upcoming Batman movie? Who is underneath that mask?

At the time we’re publishing this, there’s only speculation and no official news, but people are getting really pumped up about it. To help understand the hype, here’s a little refresher on who Deathstroke is.

First off, he’s not Deadshot; that can get a little confusing. He’s Deathstroke, aka Slade Wilson, a mercenary and assassin who first appeared in 1980. As part of a secret military project, Wilson was given superhuman strength and agility. Unfortunately, unlike Captain America, he hasn’t used these gifts for good. He’s also extremely intelligent and an impeccable strategist, meaning he’s been a worthy foe of heroes like Batman.

With that mask, his gunplay, and sword-wielding ways, Deathstroke looks similar to another comic character: Deadpool. Though some details are murky, probably for legal reasons, Deadpool seems to have been inspired by Deathstroke, even to the extent of their real names: Wade Wilson and Slade Wilson, respectively. There have been live action versions of the villain, but only on television. Michael Hogan portrayed him on Smallville, and Manu Bennett has had the honors on Arrow.
