Will Beal to Write ‘Aquaman’ For James Wan and Warner Bros.
“Gangster Squad” scribe Will Beal is penning Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment’s “Aquaman,” sources confirm to Variety. Warner Bros. had no comment.
The script is based on a treatment by Geoff Johns and James Wan, who is on board to direct. Jason Momoa will play the titular superhero. Amber Heard and Willem Dafoe are also on board to star.
The film follows Aquaman, the King of the Seven Seas and the reluctant ruler of Atlantis. He is caught between a surface world constantly ravaging the sea and Atlanteans looking to lash out in revolt. The character had a brief cameo appearance in this summer’s “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.”
“Aquaman” is set to bow on July 27, 2018.
With “Batman v Superman” now out of the gate, Warner Bros. is ramping up more pre-production on its other DC properties. The studio recently announced that Rick Famuyiwa would direct “The Flash,” starring Ezra Miller in the lead role and Kiersey Clemons. It’s expected to go into production in early 2017.
Both Momoa and Miller will part of 2017’s “Justice League” ensemble film.
Beal is currently an executive producer on CBS’ “Training Day,” starring Bill Paxton. He is repped by CAA and Management 360.
