Here are Batman and Superman Looking Fierce (and Forlorn) on the Cover of 'Empire'

Batman and Superman brood side-by-side on the cover of Empire magazine’s September issue.

Ben Affleck appears in costume as Gotham’s troubled superhero in front of a murky cityscape looking ready for a fight. Henry Cavill looks less menacing as the Man of Steel, standing in front of a brightly lit city.

“There is just this gravitas to Batman,” director Zack Snyder says in Empire’s cover feature. “He is operatic.”

“In this movie, everyone has split into different directions as to how they feel about this alien,” Cavill says of Superman. “Some people love him, some hate him. Other people fear him. Is he a tyrant?”

The cast also includes Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Ezra Miller as the Flash, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Amy Adams as Superman’s girlfriend Lois Lane, Diane Lane as Superman’s Earth mom Martha Kent, Laurence Fishburne as Daily Planet editor Perry White and Holly Hunter as a crusading anti-Superman U.S. senator.
