The event will celebrate her career and include a conversation with the actress.
“Annette Bening is a modern-day icon of American cinema,” said AFI Fest Director Jacqueline Lyanga. “She brings her characters to life with an emotional intelligence that is luminous and powerful. In ’20th Century Women,’ she finds one of her richest roles yet, delivering a strong performance that anchors the film’s terrific ensemble cast.”
The film debuted to a standing ovation at the New York Film Festival on Oct. 8 and is generating Oscar buzz for Bening’s performance as a bohemian single mother. Directed and written by Mike Mills, the movie also stars Elle Fanning, Greta Gerwig, Lucas Jade Zumann, and Billy Crudup.
Bening has been nominated for four Oscars for her work in “The Grifters,” “American Beauty,” “Being Julia,” and “The Kids Are All Right.”
The AFI Fest will open on Nov. 10 with the premiere of Warren Beatty’s Howard Hughes film “Rules Don’t Apply.”
