Anne Hathaway and Dreamy Folk-Rocker Make Beautiful Music in 'Song One' Trailer (Exclusive)

A tragic event brings unexpected romance into Anne Hathaway’s life in Song One, the feature-film debut of writer-director Kate Barker-Froyland. Here’s the first trailer for the indie drama, which stars Hathaway as Franny, an anthropologist who flies home from Morocco when she learns that her musician brother is in a coma. In between hospital visits, Franny sets out to explore her brother’s favorite New York City haunts, including a concert hall where his idol, singer-songwriter James Forrester (Johnny Flynn), is playing.

A relationship soon blossoms between Franny and James, set against the backdrop of the Brooklyn music scene, and scored with James’ folk-rock tunes (written, in reality, by Jenny Lewis and Johnathan Rice). Song One premiered at Sundance in January, where it got some attention for Flynn’s breakout performance as the sensitive, Anne Hathaway-wooing musician. The movie hits theaters and VOD on January 23.
