Uptown Girls Amy Schumer and Jennifer Lawrence Recreated the 'Trainwreck' Scene With Billy Joel

From jet-skiing in Martha’s Vineyard to dancing on top of Billy Joel’s piano in Chicago, pals and screenwriting partners Jennifer Lawrence and Amy Schumer are basically having the best summer vacation ever. As the Piano Man launched into his 1983 hit “Uptown Girl” during his Wrigley Field concert Thursday night, Schumer and Lawrence crashed the party to the cheers and applause of the crowd. Watch the video above.

The choice of that song wasn’t accidental: Schumer’s summer hit Trainwreck ended with the comedian and actress trying (and mostly failing…but adorably so) to keep up with the New York Knicks cheerleading squad as they performed a high-intensity routine scored to “Uptown Girl,” while Schumer’s onscreen boyfriend, Bill Hader, looked on with awe. Of course, in the film, Schumer didn’t get the chance to channel her inner Michelle Pfeiffer by hoofing it atop a piano. And she also didn’t have Katniss Everdeen by her side. (The actresses have become fast friends, and Lawrence revealed this week that they’re working on a screenplay together in which they’d play sisters.)

The duo’s appearance was a surprise to concertgoers, but not to Joel. Earlier in the day, they showed up at the Cubs’ home stadium for his sound check and to plan out their moves. See the footage below:

Later, Schumer tweeted onstage video from their “Uptown Girl” routine.

Between Trainwreck and this in-concert appearance, Schumer seems out to make “Uptown Girl” her own anthem, potentially stealing it away from original Uptown Girl — and Joel’s former wife — Christie Brinkley. (Good thing that, unlike her big-screen alter ego, Schumer doesn’t really think that it’s the singer’s worst song.) And considering how much rehearsal time she invested in nailing her big dance scene, it’s hard to begrudge her the “Uptown” crown. “I was in a lot of pain,” she told Yahoo Movies in the below video about preparing for the movie’s routine. “I had to build my muscles up because I couldn’t do the moves they were doing. I had to actually train to be able to do that dance.”
