Trailer Premiere: The House of Horrors Returns in ‘Amityville: The Awakening’

Long Island, New York’s most terrifying house is back on the market. A decade after Ryan Reynolds and Melissa George moved in for some very restless nights, 2015’s Amityville: The Awakening reboots the horror staple with Jennifer Jason Leigh as the head of the household. You can get a taste of the chills and thrills in the exclusive trailer above.

There is no father to speak of this go-around, with Leigh and her three kids settling into the Suffolk County abode before all of the unsettling paranormal activities begin. Another twist we haven’t yet seen in the series: One of the children (Cameron Monaghan, currently starring in The Giver) is bed-stricken with severe injuries – and the ghost maggots definitely are not helping. It’s his sister (Bella Thorne) who will start unraveling the horrifying mystery of 112 Ocean Avenue. “This house is really bad,” she cries at one point. Amen, sister.

All told, this will make for the 12th film in the Amityville series (though several went direct-to-video), beginning with the infamous 1979 original The Amityville Horror.

Amityville: The Awakening should very likely be the first release of 2015, with a release date slotted for Jan. 2.
