'American Honey' Enlists Bruce Springsteen for Its Latest Dreamy Teaser

Director Andrea Arnold was one of the stars of this past May’s Cannes Film Festival thanks to her American Honey, the sprawling saga of a young woman (Sasha Lane) who goes on a rambling road trip selling magazine subscriptions with a group of nomadic twentysomethings (including a scruffy Shia LaBeouf). Yahoo Movies’ own Kerrie Mitchell was a fan of its mood and style (even if she thought the film went a tad too far in just about every respect). And now on the heels of its first theatrical trailer, the drama’s gotten a second, more teaser-ish promo that enlists Bruce Springsteen to convey the movie’s hypnotic, dreamy atmosphere.

In this brief one-minute tease scored to the Boss’ “Dreamy Baby Dream” — a song that plays during a significant encounter during the movie — little is revealed about the actual plot of American Honey. Instead, we’re treated to a montage of beautiful handheld shots of young people making their way through various American landscapes while Springsteen croons over the action, and a thoroughly awkward narrator reads a (tailored-for-a-trailer) quote from a glowing Twitch.com review. It’s an evocative, if slender, look at the film, which also co-stars The Girlfriend Experience’s Riley Keough.

Moviegoers can expect to see American Honey — Arnold’s follow-up to her 2011 adaptation of Wuthering Heights — in theaters Sept. 30, when it will be sure to mount an awards-season campaign.
