Ally Sheedy Throws Her Family a Halloween Goth Party in Exclusive 'Little Sister' Clip

Dubbed “a great American political film” by The New Yorker’s Richard Brody, Little Sister arrived in theaters and on-demand earlier this month to strong reviews, which praised its tale of a young nun-in-training (Addison Timlin) who, after years of avoiding her family, returns to her North Carolina home after her brother comes back from the Iraq war, and winds up reconnecting with her dark, gloomy goth roots. In the scene, Timlin’s character helps her family (including mom Ally Sheedy) set up an Oct. 31 shindig — on the cusp of the 2008 Presidential election — replete with cobwebs, skeletons, carved pumpkins, and themed cupcakes. Games and dancing ensue, all of it performed in costume. Yet the mirthful action also comes with at least a hint at the dysfunction lurking beneath the family’s surface, courtesy of Sheedy’s matriarch, whose substance abuse issues are hinted at by the recipe-busting amounts of wine in play while cooking pasta for her brood.

While this Little Sister clip only suggests the film’s thornier issues, it nonetheless gives a good idea of the appealingly quirky vibe struck by Zach Clark’s indie film, now in select theaters, and available on iTunes, Amazon, and Vimeo.
