All the Biggest ‘Star Wars’ News This Week
Let’s start off with the bad news: Star Wars: Episode VIII has been pushed back seven months, from May 2017 to Dec. 15. This delay is probably due to the success of The Force Awakens’ December release, when it didn’t have to compete with summer blockbusters. It also looks like they’re trying to make December belong to Star Wars, and it’s already working because little ol’ Avatar 2, which was supposed to be released that month, has been moved. You sad, forgotten blue aliens. Anyway, it looks like we’re going to be spending every December for eternity watching Star Wars, and isn’t that the true meaning of Christmas?
Unless you live under a Tatooine rock, you’ve probably at least heard about Saturday Night Live’s Adam Driver Star Wars sketch. In it, the TV show Undercover Boss goes to Starkiller Base, where Kylo poses as lowly technician “Matt” and learns a few things from his employees. Look, we’re just glad SNL was able to pull off a parody. It’s been a while.
A story we’ve been keeping our eye on is that of the giant Star Wars land being added to Disneyland. The rumors and leaks have all culminated in a map courtesy of MiceChat. There’s been a lot of speculation and announcements about this whole expansion. There will be a full-size Millennium Falcon, Poe Dameron’s X-Wing, and a huge escape ride inspired by the new films — plus, the churros will look like Wookiees. (OK, we made up that last one.)
In other news, a Redditor found the code to the long-lost unfinished video game Star Wars Battlefront 3, and it’s apparently playable. This is the game that the much-criticized new Battlefront (made by EA) replaced when LucasArts fell apart in 2013. That makes it the true successor to Battlefront 2. While you need an Xbox 360 Development Kit to play, it’s news that it exists. And Reddit is hoping someone will finish the game so we can go back to taking down AT-ATs the old-fashioned way — instead of whatever’s going on with that power meter thing.
