First 'Jessabelle' Photo Features a Tubful of Terror

Alfred Hitchcock famously received a letter from an angry mother. As Hitch recounted it, the woman complained his daughter had seen the French thriller “Diabolique" and refused to take baths because of that film’s scary bathtub murder scene. Then, the girl saw Hitchcock’s "Psycho" and subsequently swore off showers. The mother asked the director what she should do; Hitch sent back a telegram reading: "Send her to the dry cleaners."

By the looks of the first official photo from this summer’s scary movie “Jessabelle,” it might not be safe to go back in the bathwater. It’s the latest horror flick from producer Jason Blum, the man behind monster hits like “Paranormal Activity,” “Insidious,” and “The Purge.”

In the film, Jessabelle (Australian newcomer Sarah Snook) suvives a terrible car wreck and must return to her family home in Louisiana to recover. But there is a spirit haunting the halls that’s not about to leave her alone, even when she’s in the tub.

To see the exclusive debut of the trailer for “Jessabelle,” come back to Yahoo Movies on Thursday at 1 p.m. ET/10 a.m. PT. But if you want the chance to see the scares before anyone else, follow the film’s official Snapchat account at Jessabelle1988. Some lucky fans wil get to view the trailer on the app before it goes up online.

Also starring David Andrews, Joelle Carter, and Ana de la Reguera, “Jessabelle" opens nationwide on Aug. 29.
