AFM 2012: Hong Kong Action Choreographer to Direct First Hollywood Film 'Vigilantes - The Lost Order'

Hong Kong action choreographer Yuen Woo-ping has signed up to direct Chinese-Canadian martial arts co-production Vigilantes – The Lost Order, which will be his first Hollywood film.

Production is set to begin next year. The English-language movie will feature a Hollywood cast.

Yuen, known for his work on The Matrix, Kill Bill and Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, will be bringing his Chinese shingle Film Can Production into a collaboration with Art Birzneck of Dragon Star Pictures and Birch Tree Entertainment, who are repping the project at AFM. Vigilantes – The Lost Order is planned to be the first of a trilogy.

Described by Birch Tree as “The Matrix meets Wall Street,” the film revolves around a female assassin whose efforts to avenge her father’s murder leads her to uncover a conspiracy in the world of international high finance.

Film Can president Anthony Wong said the film is designed to become “ the next big international action franchise.”

Having worked as action choreographer for a string of Hollywood films ever since the success of The Matrix, Yuen is looking to make his first directorial foray in English-language cinema.

His most recent directing stint was on the Hong Kong-mainland Chinese co-production True Legend, and he is also behind the action scenes of Wong Kar-wai’s upcoming The Grandmaster.
