A New Photo of Wonder Woman and the Amazons, Including Robin Wright

It may be men with capes who dominate the action in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, but as a recent Fandango poll makes clear, it’s Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman who’s the main draw of Zack Snyder’s blockbuster superhero team-up. While BvS goes out of its way to introduce DC Comics’ famous Amazonian heroine – in order to help lay the foundation for an upcoming all-star Justice League film – Wonder Woman will get her own proper origin story June 23, 2017 courtesy of director Patty Jenkins (Monster). And by the looks of the latest picture released from the production, she’s going to be joined in that stand-alone saga by a trio of equally formidable females.

As seen in this exclusive shot from EW, three striking warriors will have Wonder Woman’s (a.k.a. Princess Diana’s) back in June 2017: Gladiator’s Connie Nielsen as Diana’s mother, Queen Hippolyta; House of Cards’ Robin Wright as Diana’s aunt, General Antiope; and Force Majeure’s Lisa Loven Kongsli as Antiope’s lieutenant, Menalippe. On the mythological Greek island of Themyscira, these mentors will be responsible for molding Diana into the famed leader and fighter that she is in BvS and Justice League — a task that, as Jenkins notes, will be fraught with tension, as each of these maternal figures will have different ideas about the best way to prepare her for her fabled future. “She is the only child they raised together,” said Jenkins. “And their love for her manifests in a different way for each of them.”

As evidenced by this stunning photo, Gadot’s Wonder Woman will don an outfit that, in spirit if not exact detail, closely resembles the revealing-armor look that she boasts in BvS, replete with her trademark bracelets and — for “wish-fulfillment” purposes, according to director Jenkins — high heels as well. Together, she and her comrades make a fearsome and fetching foursome whose superhero-riot-grrl adventure can’t come soon enough.
