'Doctor Strange’ Star Benedict Cumberbatch and His Magical Entourage Make Multiple Appearances in New York City

Filming for Marvel’s upcoming Doctor Strange has officially wrapped after a weekend shoot in New York City that resulted in numerous leaked photos of some of the film’s stars, including Mads Mikkelsen, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Doctor Strange himself, Benedict Cumberbatch.

On Sunday evening, director Scott Derrickson tweeted a photo of himself with a copy of a Doctor Strange comic, announcing that production on the movie had come to an end.

He wasn’t the only one spending time in comic book stores; as Entertainment Weekly notes and Marvel Entertainment shared on Twitter, Cumberbatch also made an appearance at New York’s JHU Comics while still dressed in character.

Those weren’t the only photos that made the Internet rounds. Other pictures of Cumberbatch shooting scenes in the city — both solo and alongside Ejiofor, who plays dark arts master Baron Mordo — popped up all over social and traditional media.

In particular, this image of Cumberbatch and Ejiofor running seems destined for a Photoshop meme.

But perhaps the most notable photos were the first images of a villainous Mads Mikkelsen, complete with intimidating mosaic eye make-up that screams “up to no good.” (There’s still no word on who he’s playing, though Marvel previously confirmed he’s the movie’s main baddie and will play “a sorcerer who breaks off into his own sect.”)

To finally see all these snapshots in moving-picture form, we’ll have to wait until November when Doctor Strange arrives in theaters.
