10 Stunning Concept Cars of 2013

Jeff Perez

We love concept cars, and we love designers and design students who spend hours behind their computer screens detailing some of the most stunning virtually engineered vehicles we’ve ever seen. It’s like Christmas every day of the year for us!

For 2013, we’ve featured some stunning designs, with focuses ranging from high-performance supercars to electric hatchbacks. Each of which, in their own way, were a beautiful labor of love.

So, we decided to take a look back on this year, and pick our top 10 favorite concepts from designers and design students alike. We think you’ll like what you see--click the images to view the slideshow.

BMW M9 Concept by Razvan Radion

If there was a time for BMW to build a range-topping supercar, now would be it. Following in the footsteps of the i8, designer Razvan Radion says his design would be BMW’s “missing link.” We couldn’t agree more.

Maserati Bora Concept by Alex Imnadze

Like the M9, the Bora is an example of range-topping performance and luxury in another brand poised for success in 2014 — Maserati. A play off the classic Bora nameplate, the new concept features a streamlined design, and an attractive set of angles front and back.

Renault Fly GT Concept by Konrad Cholewka

The goal of any design student hoping to make a career of industrial design is to create something unique. Konrad Cholewka did just that with his Renault Fly GT concept — a preview of a futuristic race car from the French automaker.

Cadillac Estill Concept by Ondrej Jirec

20 years from now, the Cadillac brand should be one of the most forward-thinking luxury automakers in the world. And design student Ondrej Jirec knows exactly that. While his Estill concept may look like something out of a science fiction movie, he assures us that it’s a very real possibility.

Lancia Delta HF Integrale Concept by Angelo Granata

The Lancia Delta HF Integrale is a car that’s highly missed throughout the automotive community. Its sharp angles and sheer drivability cement its place as a cult classic. Designer Angelo Granata gave this classic a much needed upgrade with a few modern and retro cues. We want it.

BMW Rapp 100th Anniversary Concept by Dejan Hristov

Honoring 100 years of BMW, Dejan Hristov’s BMW Rapp concept is a look back at the history of the German automaker. Juxtaposing many iconic coupes throughout the automaker’s history, Hristov combined modern design with iconic BMW style to create this stunning concept.

Toyota Supra Concept

We don’t like to toot our own horn — but, honk-honk. Together with Hansen Art, we wanted to take a closer look at the (hopefully) upcoming Toyota Supra successor. We kept some iconic cues from the previous-gen Supra including that massive rear wing and taillights, but incorporated much of the Lexus LF-LC concept.

Aston Martin DBC Concept by Samir Sadikhov

With the production of the limited-run One-77 coming to a close, Aston Martin surely has room in its lineup for a concept of this sheer beauty. Designed Samir Sadikhov, the DBC features some very clear Aston lines, formatted together with a modern approach.

Alfa Romeo 6C Concept by Alex Imnadze

The same brilliant mind behind the Maserati Bora concept — Alex Imnadze — created a concept that Alfa fanboys were most likely drooling over in 2013. This is the 6C, and it’s a combination of iconic Alfa design and a bit of American muscle. We think a Ferrari-sourced V8 would fit nicely underneath that long, sexy hood.

Bugatti Gangloff Concept by Paulo Czyzewski

Our most popular concept of the year is none other than the Bugatti Gangloff, created by Polish designer Paulo Czyzewski. But Paulo didn’t draw inspiration from the Veyron. Rather, it was inspired by the likes of the classic Type 57. It’s one of our favorite concepts of the year, but it’s only one of many awe-inspiring designs we’ve featured throughout 2013.
