Nail Polish Butterflies Add Flair to Glassware for Pocket Change

When you think of nail polish as paint, you suddenly realize the potential of this surprising craft supply you’ve had hiding in your bathroom cabinet! Here at Yahoo Makers, we decided our glassware could use a little dressing up, so we painted butterflies on colored transparency paper to create tattoos for our wine glasses. Cheers!

Materials:

  • Transparent plastic paper (colored or not)

  • Butterfly tattoos

  • Nail polish - multiple colors

  • Glue Dots

  • Damp paper towel or cloth

Tools:

  • Scissors

Instructions:

1. Transfer butterfly tattoos to the transparencies.

- a damp cloth will do the trick!

(Pull away the backing slowly, to make sure the tattoo has fully transferred.)

2. Color in between the lines of the butterfly with nail polish and let dry.

3. Cut out the shape of the butterfly and fold it gently down the middle to resemble a real butterfly.

4. Attach to a surface as decor using a glue dot.

Hint: Butterflies look best on glass or a mirror so the light can shine through.

Using a temporary tattoo transfer makes it easy, as you’re essentially just coloring within the lines. That way, you don’t need to worry about painting the perfect butterfly - the hard work’s already been done.

You could use these on the windows of a child’s room as well. Imagine a flock of butterflies fluttering across the panes, with the light gently shining through them!

Glue Dots are very easy to remove, so you’re not stuck with butterflies on your glasses or windows forever. When you’re ready for a change, just peel them off!
