The Coolest Grown-Up Playground You've Ever Seen. Really. The Coolest.

Imagine visiting the city of St. Louis, Missouri, only to stumble upon the coolest, craziest and most outlandish jungle gym you’ve ever seen. You have found yourself at The City Museum, and count yourself lucky for it.

The City Museum is housed in, above and around the 600,000 square-foot former International Shoe Company and is the result of artist Bob Cassilly’s creative genius. It is an ode to all things "found," creating a surrealist museum, playground and art instillation that is comprised entirely of recycled materials found locally in the city of St. Louis.

Cassilly and his long-time team of 20 artist friends and colleagues opened to the public in 1997 and have spent years adding to this "installation," constantly reclaiming disused parts of their fair city to expand, improve and reimagine their feat of creativity.

“The City Museum makes you want to know,” says Cassilly. “The point is not to learn every fact, but to say, ‘Wow, that’s wonderful.’ And if it’s wonderful, it’s worth preserving.”

The City Museum attracts young and old and manages to have a little something for everyone -- from an aquarium, to multiple ball pits and subterranean caves, to restaurants and bars, this place is a one stop shop for fun.
