New Dad Builds Amazing Swimming Pool for Newborn Son
Reddit user crackercortex didn’t have a pool growing up. So when he became a father himself, he decided to build a pool for his son. Not just any old pool, either, but the pool of pretty much any kid’s — and grownup’s — dreams.
While he had completed his share of projects in the past, he had never tackled something quite like this. So new dad toiled away under the hot Texas sun for months; pouring his heart, soul and loads of concrete into the ambitious project. But in the end, all his hard work was worth it. Check out the completely awesome results.

He started off with a simple single-sheet plan.
Here is the main section dug out and reinforced with a retention bags.
The plumbing for the main drain and skimmer is laid down and the pump is installed in a concrete pad.
Reinforcements for the two creeks, waterfall and grotto are put in. Yep, it has a grotto!
The rebar is installed. If you’ve bent and tied rebar before, you know what a headache this can be.
The future swimmer surveys his new turf.

Professionals come in to apply shotcrete. This material takes a full week to dry before it’s then sealed with a waterproof coating.
And here it is, dried, sealed and ready to go. All it needs at this point is to be plastered and filled with water.
And we have liftoff! A maiden canon ball makes it official: the pool is open! But most importantly, what does the little one think of all this?
It’s safe to say he’s pretty pleased!
And here we have the aforementioned grotto, or as the son calls it, “The cave.”
But the toddler isn’t the only one who will be enjoying this little slice of backyard heaven. A fire pit and some patio furniture make this a perfect setting for barbecues, parties and birthdays, all summer long.
