This Inexpensive Mother’s Day Keepsake is Clearly the Best
Mothers and grandmothers love having pictures of their babies close at hand (you’ll always be a baby, don’t forget!), but wouldn’t it be nice to give those photos a little extra love. Instead of a traditional frame, dress up a ‘floating frame’ and add a black and white transparency. Your photo transfer will look cool and modern and more like a piece of art than a simple framed photograph.
Materials:
Floating frame
Photo xeroxed onto a transparency sheet
Translucent glass paint
Spray glue
Tools:
Scissor
Masking tape
Instructions:
1. Cut out your “person” or image from the xerox, leaving the background out of it. It’s best to have a silhouette.
2. Spray the image with glue and apply it to the inside of the front piece of glass, the place the glass back into the frame.
3. Mask off the inside of the back glass with stripes and paint them with translucent glass paint. Let the paint dry and peel off the tape, then place the glass back into frame.
You can also skip the paint, if you prefer it a little simpler.

‘Floating frames’ are frames that don’t have traditional backing, instead the photo is wedged between two pieces of glass. They’re available anywhere you buy your usual frames, so don’t worry about having to try hard to track one down. Don’t have a transparency sheet? Your local office supply store will carry them for sure!
