The Henrietta, New York storeowner took Reddit by storm on Wednesday when he posted pictures of a working aquarium that he designed and built out of an old washing machine.

“Overall this project was a blast to make and it went swimmingly,” Eaton wrote in the post. “Used appliance stores recycle front load washers often. You could score a nice looking (not working) washer for about $50.”

The photos quickly became a hot topic of discussion on Reddit’s DIY page, with hundreds of commenters extolling Eaton’s craftsmanship in installing the 300 pound tank inside the used washer.

In a series of captioned photos, Eaton goes on to explain and show with great detail how he painstakingly created the eye-catching aquarium. He says the hardware parts, including LED lights and silicone, cost him about $125. He spent another $220 on the actual aquarium equipment that went inside the front loader’s shell. “This consisted of the filter, air pump, accesses, heater, water treatment products and the fish. We bought ‘glo fish’. They pop more in LED lighting (primarily blue),” he explained.

Eaton says he spent about 25 hours putting the project together over three weeks.

The completed project is now on full display inside Rochester Appliance, so, as Eaton puts it, “for kids to smear their faces all over it.”

Eaton doesn’t limit himself to amazing laundry machine DIY projects. He also hosts a highly entertaining series of YouTube videos that each receives thousands of views.
