This sleek chair ($90 on overstock.com) is clean-looking and comfy, but that big block of white was like a visual dead zone in my office. I could’ve spray-painted the back, but I decided to get jazzier with a fun fabric and Mod Podge. This magic stuff adheres fabric (or paper) to just about any surface: wood, metal, most plastics, you name it. And it’s beyond easy to use.

1. Gather your supplies.
You’ll need Mod Podge and a foam brush (about $8 for both on michaels.com), a craft knife, and fabric—I used two yards. Keep in mind that thinner fabrics, like this cotton print, are easiest to work with because they have give and easily absorb the glue.

2. Apply the glue and fabric.
Unscrew the chair legs from the seat. Working in small sections, brush on a thick coat of Mod Podge and lay the fabric on top. The more Mod Podge you use, the easier it will be to manipulate the fabric smoothly around any curves.

3. Trim the edges.
Once it’s dry (about an hour), use a craft knife to remove extra fabric. Attach the legs, and you’re done.
