Strangest Knitted Creations: Chicken Sweater to Crocheted Bikini
Just because it can be made out of yarn doesn’t mean it should be.
There are entire websites and Pinterest boards devoted to ugly and bizarre knits, but some projects are so wrong, they’re sewn into your memory forever.
Though we may never know what compelled these creations, these knitters and crocheters have serious skills to turn their wildest knitted fantasies into reality. So go ahead and marvel at all that wasted craftsmanship and wonder what inspired them. But whatever you do, please don’t gift these to us next December.

Children can be so uncooperative when measuring for a sweater, so why not try the barnyard instead? How to Knit Chicken Sweaters lays out the steps and notes how important it is to keep your fowl warm in cold weather. A close look at the photo reveals the careful shaping of the wing-hole and the contrasting garter stitch trim around both the wing and the bottom of the sweater. No doubt the chicken appreciates the workmanship.
Can’t commit to knitting a glove or mitten? Knit neither.
This slightly impractical project includes only cuffs and knuckle warmers attached by a knitted cord. The knitter spent time creating a ribbed cuff with matching ribbing on the fingers. The Flickr user who took the photo describes it as a “bikini mitten,” and acknowledges it’s maybe the “ugliest knitwear ever.”

This original crocheted creation can only be admired by serious cat lovers (or maybe only cat haters). Available on Etsy, of course.
It’s like a sock, except all your most useful body parts are trapped inside.
This project is as big an undertaking as knitting a sweater. It would take many of the same skills and just as much time. Of particular interest is the contrasting color neck, because of course you want to look good when you are trapped in a bag with your laptop.

Knitting a hat is an advanced skill that even some experienced knitters do not attempt. Knitting a tiny ear hat is even more of a challenge, but without actually being useful.
Someone took the time to make belt loops, so why not take the time to make it not ugly?

Everything about these shorts is wrong, but this crocheter did do so many things right. Creating a wearable garment (even a hideous one) isn’t for beginners. This project includes additional finishing details such as pockets and belt loops which took extra time and skill. So, um… Good job?

It would take knitting needles almost as thin as toothpicks to create these key cozies. That makes it an impressive project. But really, save the time and effort and buy some from the local hardware store for $0.49.

It takes a lot of time to create something out of yarn. Why risk ruining it with the first use? Also, only one ply? Really?

There really can be too much of a good thing. This fully knitted cable body suit was hours in the making and demonstrates a lot of advanced knitting skills such as cabling, bobbles, and button band making. It also demonstrates an advanced lack of good taste.
