Photographer Shoots Entire Wedding on iPhone, and the Results Are Mac-nificent!

Wedding photographer Sephi Bergerson has been shooting lavish Indian weddings for seven years. Despite his technical expertise, and ample experience, he’d been holding on to one little hope that had been evading him:

“It has been a dream of mine for a long time, to shoot a complete Indian wedding only on the iPhone.”

When the iPhone 6s was released, he knew the technology was up to the task. His main challenge was finding a couple willing to take the plunge.

Enter Ayushi and Abhishek, a young couple planning a three-day traditional Indian wedding in Udaipur, Rajasthan, in November 2015.

Ayushi and Abhishek were willing to let Bergerson realize his vision of using an iPhone to create a hybrid he thought of as “wedding photojournalism.”

“I was not trying to document everything but rather focus on images that would later translate to the artistic vision that I had.”

The results?

“Daytime pictures were fantastic, but the night still remained a bit tricky. Low-light photography was difficult … as the ISO limit was not letting me shoot without having motion blur.”

To help him eliminate some of the blur and get the correct exposure, Bergerson added a handheld LED light to his toolkit.

One thing Bergerson really appreciated about the experience was the intimacy of shooting with a smaller device.

“What I like about the iPhone is it helps me get much closer to the subject and have eye contact.”

So where did this idea come from? Back in 2011, Bergerson’s mind was being blown by the ubiquity of the versatile iPhone. In a blog post from that year, he wrote:

“Under the innocent cover of your iPhone lies a powerful tool that is changing the way we work and think as photographers. For the first time, we have a camera, a darkroom, and and an online research directory in one small device.”

So what does he think now?

“I love using the iPhone, but despite all its advantages, I don’t think it will take over and replace the regular camera.”

That might be why there were five other photographers from the SILK wedding photography agency there shooting the same wedding.
