Man Builds Custom Kayak to Bring His Dogs on Adventures

Adventures just aren’t as fun without your fur babies. David Bahnson decided to figure out a way to bring his pets out on the open water with him.

The Vermont-based retired orthopedic surgeon designed a kayak custom fit for two dogs. Bahnson started with one space in the kayak for his first dog Susie, configured out of the baggage compartment. According to The Dodo, he made the second modification after he and his wife got a second dog, Ginger.

“They are trained to get in the kayak themselves on command,” Bahnson said. “They sit down, and off we go. When we come ashore, they’ll stay seated until I tell them it’s okay to get out.”

Sadly, Bahnson has been taking his pups on adventures for so long, that Ginger and Susie have since passed. But the two lived a long life full of adventure that’s become a tradition for the family and their pets.

"I love my dogs. I love training them, the companionship. We’ve gone miles and miles of paddling with our dogs,” Bahnson told The Dodo. “They just really enjoy going places.”

Something tells us Bahnson’s dogs would really enjoy this puppy train.
