Just Say Ahh: World’s Largest Sauna Opens in Norway

The typical steam room maybe relaxing, but you have to put up with dim lighting and cramped claustrophobia-inducing quarters. Not with this airy, modern A-frame sauna, though. Called Agora, the modern structure is incredibly spacious, accommodating up to 150 heat-seekers at once – which makes it the biggest sauna on Earth right now. Built in conjunction with Norway’s arts festival SALT, a cultural program promoting installations, music, and architecture, the space is meant to be a place of social exchange as well as spa-like warmth. In addition to four large wood burning stoves that provide the sauna’s heat, there’s a bar, music, amphitheater-style seating, and floor-to-ceiling windows that look out over a beautifully desolate beach. The only question is, once you’ve reached this wonderfully warm spot off the small arctic island of Sandhornøya in northern Norway, why would you ever want to leave? The SALT festival continues through September 1st, and the sauna is open every Saturday from noon until 6 p.m.
