Have Freckles? These Amazing Photo Portraits Will Hit the Spot

Freckles are often called “cute” or “adorable,” but British photographer Brock Elbank sees them as something else entirely: artistic, inspiring, and incredibly beautiful.

The artist’s new series, #Freckles, celebrates freckled faces with close-up photos of 90 subjects (and counting!) from around the world. His two-year project will continue into 2017, with a goal of shooting 150 diversely freckled individuals.

“I’ve always loved freckles,” Elbank told Buzzfeed. “What I find interesting about individual characters that I have been fortunate enough to photograph is that many have struggled with their freckles since their infancy and either hated them or grown to live with them or even like them in adulthood.”

“Many of the subjects shot so far are such incredible-looking humans … amazing-looking individuals from all walks of life,” he went on to say. “People really are the most incredible subjects to photograph.”

Elbank isn’t the first photographer to be fascinated with spots — Oregon-based photographer Fritz Liedtke has also done a well-regarded series celebrating freckles, beautifully named Astra Velum or “veil of stars” — but Elbank’s vivid lighting and tight framing make his work stand alone.
