Disney Artist 'Blown Away' By Response To His Cecil The Lion Art, Now Offering Prints

Never before has one big cat’s death sparked such international outrage—or so many heartwarming responses.

By now you’ve certainly heard the the terrible story of Minnesota dentist Walter Palmer, who illegally killed a beloved lion named Cecil in Zimbabwe. Cecil’s death has led to protests, a general outcry against big game hunting, and most recently, three major US airlines refusing to transport game trophies on their aircrafts. While nothing can bring Cecil back, the projects, artwork, and other tributes newly created by makers, activists, and animal lovers around the world are quite inspiring. Heck, even Beanie Babies (remember those?) have gotten into the act, gearing up to produce a “Cecil” collectable in September, with 100% of the profits benefiting 100% of the profits benefiting the Wildlife Conservation Research Unit of the University of Oxford (WildCRU).

We’ve pulled together 12 of our favorite creative responses, starting with a former Disney animator who’s had such a big outpouring of love to his work that he’s now offering prints with all proceeds going to WildCRU.

There’s also a street artist known for his grand-scale animal art, cartoonists, and even a sand sculptor! Through these creative commemorations, Cecil lives on.
