Coolest Map Ever Is a Squeezable Ball Instead of Paper

No folding necessary, no Wi-Fi signal needed. All you need to do to reveal the teeny labeled street grid on this egg-shaped rubber map is to squeeze the sucker hard.

Annnnnd squish! Designer Dénes Sátor cleverly refers to the squashing of what he’s dubbed the Egg Map as “manual zooming” (ha!), and it works: The map balloons out legibly, the how-to-get-from-Point-A-to-Point-B problem is solved, and you’ve just relieved a little stress after fondling this squishy little oddity.

There are other advantages to this blobby guide, too. Sátor touts on his Behance page: “Drop it, step on it, throw it against the wall — it’s simply indestructible thanks to its incredible flexibility. As it’s filled with 100 percent oxygen, you don’t have to worry about it making your bag heavier, either. … It’s made of waterproof material so you can use it even in unfriendly weather conditions like rain, wind, mud, or snow.”

In a world where fancy new tech gadgets keep disrupting old ideas, it’s refreshing to see a low-fi product making waves. After all, Wi-Fi isn’t always available and phone batteries die. And those paper maps (the ones that never friggin’ fold back correctly) are difficult to wrangle and make you look like a clueless tourist. 

Now we’ve just got to convince Sátor to put these rubbery city maps into production beyond his hometown of Budapest. Get on it, man! The ball is in your court.
